IBM Workplace™ Services Express is software that makes it easy for you, your colleagues, your teams, and your entire organization to quickly collaborate and effectively work together. Designed specifically for small and medium-sized organizations with less than a thousand employees, Workplace Services Express allows you to easily create, edit, and share documents from your own customized Workplace environment.
Instant messaging
Workplace Services Express also includes integrated instant messaging and provides easy access to your e-mail (Wintouch,® IBM Lotus® Domino,® Microsoft® Exchange or POP3/IMAP), calendar and address book. Your company's existing business applications can be integrated into the online Wintouch for Workplace environment to provide a central spot for you and your employees to find what they need to accomplish their job.
IBM Workplace Services Express works on a single server, and makes it easier to create and customize role-based team spaces to meet your individual needs and preferences. IBM Workplace Services Express comes with 12 ready-to-go business templates, which are designed to help you jump-start the way you use the product and designed to help get you and your team productive, as quickly as possible.
Since IBM Workplace Services Express offers such flexibility in purchasing and deployment options, projects and teams can extend beyond traditional boundaries. IBM Workplace Services Express facilitates easy collaboration between your colleagues, business partners, customers, and suppliers.
Increased security
IBM Workplace Services Express is a server-managed platform, which means your documents, your information, your entire customized Workplace environment are stored on the server, and therefore are more easily managed. There are several benefits to this approach; for example, this innovative "net-centric" model allows you and your team to access and share documents and business applications without being tied to a specific PC in a specific location.
Because IBM Workplace Services Express doesn't require your that documents to be stored and applications to be installed on your PC, you and your team can work together using just a Web browser (Microsoft or Linux®).
IBM Workplace Services Express is designed to work with what you have - for example, Microsoft users enjoy easy and elegant integration with Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office applications and works with existing Microsoft Office 2000 and XP licenses, as well as Office 2003, without requiring any Office upgrades to gain advanced collaboration capabilities. Workload considerations
Wintouch for Workplace is designed for use by small and midsize companies. For the Workplace Services Express, Version 2.0 part of the deployment, up to 750 registered users can be provided with access to the server with up to 75 of these users being concurrent, and including up to 15 team spaces.
This should be used as a starting point when assessing how many users can be placed on a Workplace Services Express server. The specific details of a company’s planned usage, such as the percent of the users that are concurrent and which capabilities of Workplace Services Express are being used can affect the workplace sizing for a server. Your Touchtone representative can help you determine your specific requirements.
Licensing terms
The IBM Workplace Services Express, Version 2.0 product license contains the following terms: Workplace Services Express is licensed for use in a single-server configuration only. It may not be clustered nor cloned.
When user-based licensing is used, no more than 2000 users may be placed on the server. When processor-based licensing is used, the server cannot have more than four processors in it. Please review the product license for additional details. Note that these are licensing terms and are not intended as workload-sizing guidelines.
